The Cotton Gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1794 after he moved to George in efforts to find a job. It worked exceptionally well at separating cotton from its seeds and sped up the process. This was an attempt to make slavery less prevalent and popular, however, it backfired and made slavery extremely more profitable in the South.
