    Fugitive Slave Act
    The Fugitive Slave Act was a federal law that allowed for the capture and return of runaway slaves. This law was one of the most controversial laws of the early 19th century.     Brooks beat Sumner with cane in retaliation for a speech given by Sumner. Brooks apparently didn't agree with Sumner's speech "The Crime Against Kansas" so he decided to beat him which was not a good choice to go with. After the attack Sumner got brain damage from Brooks.     Debate between Abraham lincoln and Stephen Douglas.
    Lincoln was a republican and Douglas was a democrat.
    Douglas is from Illinois and that was were his business was.
  • Raid on Harper's Ferry

    Raid on Harper's Ferry
    John Brown led a small army to Harper's Ferry. His plan was to arm the slaves with weapons so they can fight.
  • Election 1860

    Election 1860
    Lincoln (R) against Senator Stephen Douglas (D), John Breckenridge (D) and John Bell. Lincoln won the election. Before his inauguration, 11 Southern states seceded from the Union. A couple weeks after taking office, the Confederate Army fired on Fort Sumter and started the Civil War. This picture is the inauguration.
