Arc-Transmitter Development
Poulsen created arc-transmitters which were less complicated than alternator transmitters. This lead to a majority of the early experimental audio transmissions to use this device. Then the alternator transmitters were used less and less, leading to the arc transmitters taking over. -
Audion Tube
Frost was given credit for the audion tube which amplified signals. It's highly believed Fessenden created it. Many people believe that many radio inventions were created by other people than those who got credit for it. -

K is the west of the Mississippi River. W means east of the river. There are exceptions, although this is the general rule. -
Titanic Sank
The sinking of the Titanic highlighted the value of radio to ocean vessels. It saved hundreds of lives due to the fact that they could now call for help. This was the start of many ships sing radio. -

Radio helped the militaries communicate with each other. It also helped civilians know what was going on. It was a way to find out those who were dead and all the news of the war on the other side of the world. -

First Radio Commercial
WEAF aired the first commercial ever. It was the beginning of radio commercials to gain money and the advertisers business. They charged the company $50 for 10 minutes. -
Transmitting License
Transmitting licensing began by the Federal Radio Commission. Then it was called the FRC. Now we call it the FCC where it still controls radio. -
Music on Radio
When television came along it took away the radio shows as they began to be played on the screen. Radio knew that if they didn't do something soon that they'd be out of business. As a result, they started playing music on the radio so that people wouldn't have to go buy tickets, or records, but could simply listen to the radio for musical entertainment. -
