Audion Tube
Lee De Forest created the audio tube. A vacuum tube that amplified signals. It is widely believed that Reginald Fessenden actually invented the audio tube, but he didn't make it into history. -
Radio Stations
Took us 25 years to start broadcasting music and voices. Originally named 8XK, later changed to KDKA. KDKA is still around today and is broadcasted out of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. -

WEAF aired a 10 minute 'comercial' pr toll brodcast, for an apartment complex charging $50. -
FRC
Uncle Charlie stations were too popular. Established the FRC(Federal Communications Committee). Organize the licensing of transmitters. Assigning radio stations frequencies, call letters, and power limits. Abbreviation later changed to FCC. -
Golden Era
Middle of the Great Depression. People were hurting for money and around this time tons of people listened to the radio. -
Radio's Demise
TV makes an appearance. Radio lost money and radio shows jumped ship. As popularity grew people moved to TV. -
Radio Gets Music
After TV was invented, radio lost a lot of money and listeners. So they started playing music.Many listeners came back so they could listen to music without having to buy a record.
