  • First radio Signal

    Marconi invented the radio. He sent and recieved the first radio signal in 1895.
  • Audion Tube

    Lee De Forest created the fist Audion Tube. A vaccum tube that amplifies signals. Widely believed that Reginald Fessenden actua;;y created the fist audion tube.
  • first radio station

    First radio station created iin 1920. It took Marconi 25 years to create the first radio station. The station could braodcast news and music.
  • Uncle Charlie

    Term used to describe a private radio station. At the time, not just any ordinary person couuld own there own station. You needed a permit from the state.
  • dawn of advertising

    adverstising first started in 1922. People are paying the radio station to talk about there products to evryone on air. the cost was 50 dollars for 10 minutes of air time.
  • too popular

    Private stations were getting to popular in 1927. Now you had to get a liscense from the FCC to keep broadcasting. The gov trying to limit the amount of stations.
  • Call letters

    are codes for radio stations. everyone got a unique one so no one had the same station at once. east of the Mississipp started with an W and west started with a K.
  • Golden Era

    Lasted to the 1940`s. Was the height of radio. Everyone listened to the raio for there news.
  • Family Medium

    Families would sit together everyday and listen to the radio together. Just an idea that the whole family could enjoy something together. Used by radio businesses to sell more radios.
  • Radio to T.V.

    Radio shows failed to transfer to T.V. correctly. Actors actually had to be seen on T.V. and there characters didnt make sense to the actual person.
  • Music

    Music became a big thing on radios. There were few other places to to even get music at the time. Playing music on the radio started attracting people to the stations.
  • Radios Proggression

    Edwi Armstrong created the FM Transmitter. allowed songs to be played more clearly over the radio. From then on, Am was for talking and FM was for Music.
