    Invention of the Radio
    Guglielmo Marconi is credited with making the radio. He was testing James Clerk Maxwell's theory of electromagnetic currents. He created a wireless broadcast in his backyard, though it was short distance. He amazed many when broadcasting from a ship to a land based stationin New York.

    LINK HEREUntil 1906, the radio had been dots and dases. A Canadian physicist named Reginald Fessenden sent the first long distance human voice and music from his station. It went from Massachussetts and the signal was recieved in Virgina.

    KDKA was the first commerical broadcasting station that started. It was based in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. This was the first of many radio stations that eventually lead to the creation of NBC and RBC.

    Link HereLee de Forest was the first to use the radio for more modern stuff. He set up 2XG, an experimental radio station that played music and had nightly new. This ended when World War I began and the U.S. government began having more restrictions on radio shows to stop the broadcasting of war infomation.

    LINK HEREEdwin Armstrong discovered FM radio. He knew it was stronger and had a clearer sound but his boss wasn't interested. It was over twn years before he said anything about these discoveries.

    LinkThe Golden Age is when the radio was the most popular. Everyone tuned in to their favorite programs and had million of listerns across America. Radio's had talk shows, comedy acts, podcasts for children, and lots more to choose from. With the invention of the television, the Golden Age began to twinklw out.
  • DAB

    DAB
    LINKDAB or Digital Audio Broadcasting, is one of the more contemporary developemnets in radio. They provided disc quality music over the radio without interruption from any distance according to their listeners. They did not get approval to air until 1999 by the FCC, but had been in works since the 1980's.
