    Invention of Radio
    Marconi was an Italian inventor. He sent and recieved his first signal in 1895. In 1899 he flashed the first signal (wireless) across the English Chanel. First succesful transatlantic radiotelegraph in 1902.
  • Audion Tube

    Audion Tube
    Made in 1906. Lee De Forest "borrowed" the idea to create the Audion tube. It was a vacume tube that amplified signals. Widley believed that a Canadian inventor actually came up with the idea.

    In 1906 Brant Rock, MA a man named Fessenden played his violin. He also sung a song and read a bible verse. He did this in a wireless invention of his own. It happened on Christmas eve. It was the first broadcast designed for more than one person to hear.

    Was broadcasted in Brant Rock, MA. It was done for a Christmas eve program. O Holly night was played on the violin. Fessenden, a Canadian inventor, used an alternator-transmitter to broadcast. This was revolutionary for radio.
  • Titanic

    Radio was very important on the Titanic. Being on a boat, they did not have land lines, only wireless broadcasts. When the ship crashed into an iceberg, the radio was used to send distress signals. This caused few people to be rescued other than none. This caused radio to start to be used for other things.

    The first radio station was called KDKA. It was located in Pittsburg, PA. They had the first full time announcer, his name was Harold W. Arlin. They had a 50 kilowatt signal. They could be heard throughout most of PA.

    It was in the year 1922. A station called, WEAF aired the first radio commercial ever. It was the first of what became a 15 minute series. The advertisement cost about $100, which was considered a lot back then.

    Organized the liscence of transmitting. That way other transmissions that were not liscensed would not interfear. Stations were assigned call letters. Call letters can change the station frequency depending on you location. The FRC is now known as the FCC.

    The first cassette was invented by a very famous company known as Phillips. They were actually very difficult to use when the first came out. They were not very popular around the time they were first release. They began to catch on very soon.

    It was created by Edwin Howard Armstrong. It was the first radio with an FM radio frequency. It was also allowed to be changed from FM to AM. This made the radio a lot more popular. You could change the frequenceys very fast.

    One of the primier commentators of early radio. his was mosthy because she was a woman. It was rare for someone of her sex to be in the field of radio journalism. She became very well known. Not only did she help revolutionize radio, also womens rights.
  • D-Day

    Sixty years ago an invasion began of the European continent through France by the Allied Expeditionary Force. The attack ultimatley led to the fall of Nazzi Germany. Radio journalism was ready for the invasion. They knew it was coming and they were prepared to broadcast to Americe the events that unfolded.

    The US was fighting a war with the Japanese. They were battling for some of the most gaurded land the US had ever seen. Radio broadcasts reporting the fighting were known as, The Combined American Network. They were a pool of reporters. Radio helped the US stay informed and report information efficiently throughout the radio world.

    It was a common Cassete or CD Player that was portable. It was bigger and louder than a Walkman. They have two or more loud speakers. It is also capable of recieving radio stations. It was an iconic image in music during its time.

    It is a Sony brand tradename. It was the first "portable" audio cassette player. It changed listening habits. It allowed people to carry their music and listen to it. It used casette tapes. The prototype was built by Nobutoshi Kihara.
