    Growing up and his reputation
From the period of 583 all the way until 609 prior to receiving his first revelation from God, the prophet made a reputation for himself being very honest. He was an honest man in a insincere world and that attracted a lot of attention from traders. In addition to his honesty catching the attention of traders, it also caught the eye of a business woman named Khadijah.

    1st Marriage of PM
Prophet Muhammad was proposed to by Khadijah due to his exemplary character. It was extremely rare for a woman to propose to a man during that time. To make the situation even stranger at the time, the prophet was 15 years younger than her being 25 while Khadijah was 40. Even so, the prophet agreed and they were married in 595.

The first revelation from Angel Gabriel
In 610 at the age of 40 years old, the Prophet receives his first revelation from Angel Gabriel within a cave on Mount Hira. Mount Hira was a common place the prophet would go in order to pray and meditate. The angel said that God had sent him to the Prophet in order to reveal his teachings/messages. The first verse was,"Read! in the name of your Lord who created Man from a clinging substance. Read: Your Lord is most Generous,– He who taught by the pen–Taught man that which he knew not."

The beginning of the spread of Islam

A mere three years later, Muhammad along with a small group of believers start preaching the words of God revealed through the holy prophet. They were struck as crazy or blasphemous at the time. Only 1 year later PM and his followers were forced out of Mecca due to danger of staying. This led to the first group of Muslims moving to Ethiopia.

    The year of sorrow

This is hands down one of the toughest years in the Prophets life. Similar to the beginning of Muhammad's life, two close relatives die. The first being his first wife Khadijah and the second being his Uncle Abu-Talib. Things certainly were not looking to bright in PM's life.

    Hijrah

    Hijrah
In the year 622 the prophet makes the famous journey from Mecca to Yathrib or present day Medina (Fun fact: Medina literally translates to "the City of the Prophet"). After settling at Yathrib for a little while, he regains his strength, regains the strength of his followers, and he obtains new followers by converting people in Yathrib. He also convinces them to come to war with the prophet so that they may fight and defend the religion God himself revealed to him.

    Wars and Conquest

From 623 to 627 the prophet fought many pivotal battles in defense of the newly revealed religion. Some of the most notable battles include the battle of Badr, the battle of Uhud, and the battle of the trench.

The final pilgrimage and Ghadir Khumm

After the prophet had successfully brought peace in Mecca and spread the word of God, he needed a successor because he was getting old. During this final pilgrimage he supposedly appointed his cousin Ali to be his successor. At the time Ali was only 13 years old and many people found it hard to believe. However, it is told that the Prophet Muhammad said,"Anyone who has me as his mawla, has Ali as his mawla". This is a crucial point in Muslim history because it separates the Sunni from the Shia.
