    The formation of the Dual Alliance
    The Dual Alliance was an alliance between Germany and Austria-Hungary. The man who formed this alliance was a man named Otto von Bismarck, who was the Chancellor of Prussia. The significance of this war was that it helped stop/limit war. The two countries also pleaded to aid the other country incase they were attacked by Russia.
  • Creation of the Triple Alliance

    Creation of the Triple Alliance
    The Triple Alliance was an add-on to the Dual Alliance. However, Italty was added to the clan to make it a Triple Alliance. Now the Triple Alliance was an alliance between Austria-Hungary, Germany and Italy which protected eachother. The Triple Alliance was extremely relative to the Dual Alliance. All of these countries provided mutual support for eachother incase of an attack by an opposing country.

    In 1890, Germany's foreign policy changed dramatically. At this point Kaiser Wilhelm II forced Bismarck to resign from being the ruler of Germany, which he had been for the last two years. Wilhelm kept all power to himself. Wilhelm let his nation's treaty with Russia lapse in 1890. Russia responded to Germany by forming a defensive military alliance with France in 1892-1894. The significance of these events was that it helped fortify germany. The treaty with Russia lapse helped them with this.

    The type of alliance Russia and France connected together was more like a defensive military alliance. This alliance was formed from the dates 1892 to 1894. This alliance affected Bismark and his fellow Germans in an extreme way. If the Germans went to war with either Russia or France, then that would make them enemies with both countries. Both Russia and France were also two superior forces.

    Militarism is the policy of glorifying military power and keeping an army prepared for war. The significance of this affected people in several different ways. It made people feel somewhat patriotic towards their country, however some people were frightened by the rise of militarism

    In 1905 and again in 1911, Germany and France nearly fought over who would control Morocco, In North America. Most of Europe supported France, so Germany backed down. This event is significant because it shows how imperialism, expanding an empire by taking over weaker countries, led to intense competition and conflict between European countries.

    The Triple Entente did not bind Britain to fight with France and Russia. Although, it almost positively ensured that there would not be any conflict between them. The Triple Entente was between the three countries Great Britain, France and Russia. A debate or argument between any two rival powers could possibly draw all the nations of Europe into war.

    Austria Annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina
    In 1809, Austria annexed or took over both Bosnia and Herzegovina. These were to relatively large Baslkan areas with a large population of Slavics. Serbian leaders were outraged about this because they planned on taking over these areas in the first place. This created tons of conflict and tension between Austria and Serbia. The Serbs vowed to take away Bosnia and Herzegovina away from Austria, but Austria snapped back at any Serbs that tried to invade.

    The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was on June 1914. This prompted Austria to commit war on Serbia. They did this because the murderer of Ferdinand was a Serbian, and they used it as an excuse. This overall had a bad affect, especially for Serbia. They had many enemies because Austria had many allies. Not only that, but this was one of the reasons the declaration of war began!

    The reason why the first declaration of war began was because of Austria-Hungary's declaration of war with Serbia. A chain of events began to occurr. There were several conflicts between Russia, France and Germany. Great Britain, France and Russia formed the Allied Power of the Allies. Japan joined next and Italy later.
    The significance of this war and the allies had a bad impact overall. In 1914, they thought the war would be short, but turned out to be long, bloody, and grusome.
