Personal Migration Timeline (Key: Economic=E Cultural=C Environmental=EN Political=P)

  • (C) Grandma born in Snoqualmie then moved to Seattle

    (C) Grandma born in Snoqualmie then moved to Seattle
My grandmother was born in Snoqualmie then moved to Seattle in 1950 because she got married. This is cultural migration because at the time the reason my grandmother moved was because she got married.
  • (C) Grandma moved from Seattle to Renton

    (C) Grandma moved from Seattle to Renton
My grandmother moved to Renton in 1963. She lived there till 2014. My grandma moved there because her husband died in a car wreck and she married my grandpa. This is another cultural migration because she moved to Renton because she married my grandpa who worked in Renton.
  • (E and C) Dad moved from Renton to Ellensburg

(E and C) Dad moved from Renton to Ellensburg
My dad grew up and lived in Renton his whole life even during his first two years at green river community college. He then moved to Ellensburg to go to Central Washington University. This is economic migration because my dad moved for a college, he was getting an education.
  • (P and E)Dad moved from Ellensburg to Seattle

(P and E)Dad moved from Ellensburg to Seattle
My dad graduated from his College and then got a job in downtown Seattle. He moved there because of the job opportunities. Politically and economically Seattle was a better city than the small town Ellensburg.
  • (En) Dad moved from Seattle to Kent

(En) Dad moved from Seattle to Kent
My dad moved to Kent because him and my mom were having children (my brother and I). They moved to our specific home because of the view it had and the surrounding schools. They thought it would be a place good enough to grow up in. Because it was more of a setting issue than a political issue or cultural issue makes this migration environmental.
  • (E) Grandma moved from Renton to Kent

    (E) Grandma moved from Renton to Kent
My grandmother had been living in the same house in Renton for 51 years. She was living alone for a while until one night she fell and hurt her hip badly. She now lives in a care home basically across the street from our home now. The reasoning for this being an economic migration is because she needed to live with other people in order for safety.
  • (C and E) I move from Kent to New York

(C and E) I move from Kent to New York
The reason I move is for school. My mom went to Cornell University and she wanted me to go there. The school is in Ithaca, a small college town. This move would be a cultural move because I am moving to expand my culture and knowledge. Not only that but it would be and economic just just as how when my dad went to CWU.
  • (EN and E) I move from New York to Massachusetts

(EN and E) I move from New York to Massachusetts
I move partially for work and partially because I really like Massachusetts. This makes it an economic migration because one of my pull factors is purely on weather and how the actual area looks. Economics would also be a push factor from New York because it would be harder to find a job there.
  • (E)I move from Massachusetts to California

(E)I move from Massachusetts to California
I got offered a job in San Jose California, conveniently my second favorite city. The reason I would have moved to San Jose would be economic because of the job I got offered.
  • (EN) I move from San Jose to Kent

(EN) I move from San Jose to Kent
After a long and successful life I decided to settle back in my home town. This would be a purely environmental pull factor because the only reason I would move back is because I already know and love the area.
