Personal Art Education History

  • Granny Grunt

Some of my earliest memories are crocheting and looking at old photos with my great-grandmother. My mom always says "Granny would be proud" when I exhibit quilts or fiber arts works.
  • Art Camp!

    Art Camp!
William King Museum of Art Summer Art Camp was one of the defining moments in my art career. As a 6th grader, I was opened up to clay (defined most of my college career), photography, printmaking, etc.
  • High School

    High School
High School was a time that I dominated as "best" artist in the school, but didn't make a lot of progress in my art making. I wasn't really aware what the possibilities there were with art making, but knew it would be an integral part of my life.
  • Metropolitan

    Metropolitan
High School graduation trip to London and Paris. First time to Europe, Louvre, etc. This was a major influence on my exploration into Art History, to which I never had a prior interest. Somehow, seeing the Nike of Samothrace in real life gets you interested!
  • First Large Scale Piece

    First Large Scale Piece
Refurbished table, first large scale painting piece. First influence of graffiti style that I would carry through my career. I spend all summer in my parent's garage sanding, priming, and painting this table. It would be the only piece of furniture that made it through every apartment in college.
  • South of France

    South of France
Trip with my mom to the South of France. Prior to this trip, I saved up my money for months to buy a nice digital camera. This was the first igniting of interest in photography work for me. It's no wonder all the Impressionist artists wanted to come here. The light really is perfect!
  • Food, Wine and Clay, what could be better?

Food, Wine and Clay, what could be better?
Two weeks in Italy with ETSU Ceramics Professor Don Davis digging our own clay, making pottery, and firing in a tradition Etruscan kiln. Not to mention tons of beautiful light, food, and wine!
  • Seize the Clay!

    Seize the Clay!
Seize the Clay Exhibit, Nelson Fine Arts, Johnson City, TN. My first major exhibition of my work. A yearly group exhibit of all ceramics students.
  • Namaste!

    Namaste!
Spent a month and a half in Northern India in the Himalayas studying Tibetan Buddhism with ETSU and my mom. Definitely an influence on where I want to go with my future research.
  • WIP Review

    WIP Review
ETSU Works in Progress review. Turning point in my career from art making to art therapy.
  • Muraling in El Salvador

    Muraling in El Salvador
Mission Trip to El Salvador with LMUMC, health clinic, bible school, and muraling. Little did I know that there were going to be beautiful murals all around the country, making mine look like a kindergartener's work!
