  • Arrival at Har Sinai

    Psukim 1-2: The Jews arrived at Har Sinai, setting up camp to the East of the mountain. The atmosphere was united, described by Rashi as כאיש אחד בלב אחד. In addition, they had succesfuly completed Teshuva.

    Moshe goes up the mountain. Hashem tells him that He is about to sign on to a covenant with the Jews that will be based on the Jews faith in Him due to the miracles they witnessed. HAshem says if the Jews accept they will become a nation of ministers and princes. Moshe relays Hashem's words, and the Jews accept saying they will carry out all Hashem's commandments.

    Moshe relays the Jews' answer to Hashem. Hashem answers that He will speak to Moshe within seeing and hearing distance of the Jews so they will forever believe in the supernatural source of the Torah and in prophecy. When Moshe tells the Jews about this they request that Hashem speak to them directly.

    Moshe tells Hashem that the Jews requested He speak to them directly. Hashem agrees and gives Moshe a list of preparations the Jews must carry out in honor of Mattan Torah. Moshe tells the Jews to prepare for the 3d day, when they will receive the Torah.
