Muhammad was born in Mecca, which was an important pilgrimage center, and his name means to praise or glorify. He became an orphan in 575 after his mother died and was placed in the protection of his paternal gandfather.

Muhammad would make treks to a mountain cave outside of town to fast and meditate over his new materialistic life. One time, he was visisted by the angel Gabriel and was given the teachings of the Qur'an. He did not reveal this to anyone and did not share the message immediately.

Muhammad eventually told the teachings he had received to his family and were gathered to eventually make the Qur'an. His family became the first Muslims, even though they were persecuted for their faith and deserting the traditional tribal faiths.

Muhammad and his followers left Mecca and travelled to Medina. Muhammad stayed there for six years and built a community of believers there.

After the wars between the new Muslims and those living in Mecca. Eventually, Muhammad and his followers entered Mecca without any bloodshed and the people there accepted the faith.

Muhammad returned and lived in Medina and returned to Mecca in 632 on a pilgrimage. He returned to Medina again and died there.

In his teens, Muhammad would travel with a merchant and sell goods. He eventually began working for a wealthy widow, who was his distant cousin. He carried her goods back and forth and returned with profits.
