Columbus sailed for 96 days. While sailing he explored Coral Island, Bahamas, Cuba, and Hisponolia thinking he was in the indies. While sailing he also discovered North America. -

Eastern tribes had been removed to Indian Territory west of the Mississippi. The discovery of the New World by European explorers caused endless problems for American Indians, whose homelands were taken from them and cultures were destroyed by the invasion. -

The election of Abraham Lincoln is viewed as the beginning of events that erupted into civil war. Lincoln was the first member of the Republican Party elected to the presidency. The United States had been divided during the 1850s on questions surrounding the expansion of slavery and the rights of slave owners. -
