NHS

  • Eligabilty Letter Received

I received a letter in the mail informing me that I am eligable to apply for NHS due to my 3.5 or higher grade point average.
  • Mandetory Meeting 1

The first mandetory meeting was held for all students applying to NHS.
  • Application Due

The eligability letter had several different "due dates" listed. These include September 22 and September 29. I emailed Deborah Waldron asking which date was correct. I cannot remember which date she said it was, however, I think it was the 29th. Thus, I had my application in on time.
  • Membership Letter Received

I received a letter in the mail informing me of my acceptance into NHS.
  • Independent Service 1 (Adaptive Aquatics)

I volunteered for 1.5 hours with Arlington County Adaptive Aquatics at Yorktown's pool from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. I taught mentally and physically handicapped children to swim. The supervising adult was Caroline Kramer. (Cell number 6788601957)
Two week deadline: October 30, 2011.
This was logged on the website on 11-19-11.
  • Mandetory Meeting 2

Elections for officer positions were held with all new and returning members and then an information meeting for all new members
  • Independent Service 2 (Adaptive Aquatics)

I volunteered for 1.5 hours with Arlington County Adaptive Aquatics at Yorktown's pool from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. I taught mentally and physically handicapped children to swim. The supervising adult was Caroline Kramer. (Cell number 6788601957)
Two week deadline: November 6, 2011.
This was logged on the website on 11-19-11.
  • Delinquency Letter Created/Sent Out (Not Received!)

Data for the "You haven't set up an account in NHS" mailing was pulled from the service log on November 5th and sent out some days later.
  • Service Log Account Created

I created a service log on the YHS NHS website on November 6th, 2011, prior to recieving a letter in the mail informing me of my delinquency.
While creating a service log, I now realize that I entered an incorrect email address. Instead of 'katbutler33@gmail.com', I goofed and entered 'katbutler@hotmail.com'. (This is entirely my mistake and caused a good amount of the miscomunication) I checked on 1-23-12, while making this timeline, if that account existed and there is no such email account.
  • Induction Ceremony

I was inducted to Yorktown's chapter of NHS on November 7, 2011.
  • Delinquency Letter Received

Although this is an estimate, I received a delinquency letter in the mail around November 8th; shortly after the induction ceremony.
  • Talked to Mr. Schuetz about my Delinquency

Again, this is an estimate. I talked with Mr. Schuetz the day after receiving the letter.
I printed out my service log, had my mom sign it, attached it to the letter, and turned it in, personally, to Mr. Schuetz. He explained that it was a mistake and that he would clear everything up.
  • Independent Service 3 (Adaptive Aquatics)

I volunteered for 1.5 hours with Arlington County Adaptive Aquatics at Yorktown's pool from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. I taught mentally and physically handicapped children to swim. The supervising adult was Caroline Kramer. (Cell number 6788601957)
This was logged on the website on 11-19-11.
Two week deadline: November 27, 2011.
  • First 3 Independent Service events logged on website

This is when I logged my service from 10-16-11, 10-23-11, and 11-13-11.
I thought, since this particular volunteering is a commitment for an entire session (9 weeks) it would be okay, and more convenient for myself and for the NHS delegates, if I logged these all on the same day and turned them all in on the same paper. This, however, was unacceptable because some of the days were past the two week deadline.
  • Independent Service 5 (Alter Serving) (Disregarded)

I volunteered for 1 hour as an alter server at St. Ann's Church from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The supervising adult was Father Greenhall. (Office number 7035286276)
Two week deadline: December 4, 2011.
This was logged on the website on 11-20-11. (The day of)
I realized that I had forgotten to get paperwork signed by my Priest for this. It was past the deadline so I disregarded it.
  • Independent Servie 4 (Adaptive Aquatics)

I volunteered for 1 hour with Arlington County Adaptive Aquatics at Yorktown's pool from 1:00 to 2:30 PM. I taught mentally and physically handicapped children to swim. The supervising adult was Caroline Kramer. (Cell number 6788601957)
This was logged on the website on 11-20-11. (The day of)
Two week deadline: December 4, 2011
This is also when I got my paperwork signed for all four Sundays.
  • Paperwork for all four of my service events were turned in

I filed my paperwork that had all four of my independent service events all on the same paper. These dates were 10-16-11, 10-23-11, 11-13-11, and 11-20-11. This would have been within the two week deadline for the events on 11-13-11 and 11-20-11.
  • Sponsored Service 1 (Turkey Trot)

I volunteered for 2.25 hours guiding runners in the Arlington Turkey Trot 5K.The supervising adult was Dana Warnecke. (Email is dana.warnecke@yahoo.com)
This was logged on the website on 12-03-11.
Two week deadline: December 8, 2011.
  • Sponsored Service 2 (Friends of Library)

I volunteered for 2 hours at the Central Library. The supervising adult was Emily Spitz. (Email is jespitz@verizon.net)
This was logged on the website on 12-20-11.
Two week deadline: December 9, 2011.
***(By mistake I entered the completion date as 11-26-11 when it really happened on 11-25-11.)
  • Probation Letter Received

I recived a probation letter in the mail around December 21, 2011. This letter informed me that, having been a delinquent already, and due to a lack of hours, I was now on probation from NHS.
This didn't make sense because I had enough hours logged and I wasn't actually a delinquent after all.
  • Checked Log - Unverified and flagged

The same day I received the probation letter, I checked my log to see what was going on. All of my Adaptive Aquatics were flagged; 3 for not turning in the paper work, 1 for being logged past the 2-week deadline. The Friends of Library event was unverified. It was logged after the two week deadline, however, should have been marked as 'flagged'.
  • Emailed Mr. Schuetz about my Probation letter

Picture I emailed to Mr. Scheutz
I emailed Mr. Schuetz on December 23, 2011, asking about my Probation. He told me to read the messages as to why my hours were flagged or unverified and to talk to him in person after the break.
  • Sponsored Service 3 (Career Center Tutoring)

I volunteered for 1 hour at the Arlington Career Center tutoring high school JROCT students in math. The supervising adult was Lt. Colonel William Conley. (Phone number is 703-945-7279)
This was logged on the website on 1-19-12.
Two week deadline: January 18, 2011.
I entered this the night of the 18th, however, I submitteted it at 12:02 AM, technically the 19th, which would be past the deadline. The website was down for 3 days beforehand.
  • Talked to Mr. Schuetz about my Probation

On 1-5-12, I talked to Mr. Schuetz. I explained the Adaptive Aquatics (how I bunched them together) and the Freinds of Library (how it was unverified). His advise was to come in on Monday, 1/8, to see if I could find my missing paper for the AA. He said the board would meet and decide if they'de accept my late events. I also needed to talk w/ the student sponsor for the FOL to see if she turned in her papers. Mr. Schuetz said I wasn't really on probation b/c I wasn't a delinquent.
  • Independent Service 6 (Nottingham Elementary Tutoring)

I volunteered for 1 hour at Nottingham Elementary School tutoring 4th and 5th grade students in math. The supervising adult was Jenny Lambdin. (Email is jennifer.lambdin@apsva.us)
This was logged on the website on 1-19-12.
Two week deadline: January 19, 2011.
***(By mistake this event is entered as 1-4-12 when it really happened on Thursday, 1-5-12)
  • Facebook Messaged Maddy Stanke about the FOL

On January 6, 2012, I came home from school and messaged Maddy Stanke on Facebook asking her if she had turned in all of the sign in sheets. She assured me that she had and then offered to talk with the Junior recorder. A few days later, my FOL was verified.
  • Went in after school on Monday to find my paperwork

On Monday after school I went in to room 200 and dug around in the filing cabinet. At the very bottom I found my paperwork for Adaptive Aquatics so I filed it under the "Junior Independent" category.
  • Turned in my paperwork for Nottingham tutoring

When I went in to find my paper work for the Adaptive Aquatics, I also turned in my paperwork for Nottingham Elementary tutoring. I also filed this under "Junior independent".
  • Friends of Library Verified

This is an estimate. A few days after messaging Maddy Stanke, my Friends of Library was marked as verified. Although she neve communicated back, I assume she talked with the Junior recorder and cleared the air.
  • YHS NHS Website down

  • YHS NHS Website down

  • YHS NHS Website down

  • Turned in my paperwork for Career Center tutoring

On 1-18-12, the 2 week deadline, I turned in my tutoring log paperwork for the Arlington Career Center tutoring in room 200.
  • Logged my Career Center Tutoring

On January 19, 2012, a few minutes after midnight, I logged my career center tutoring on the website. Although technically logged on the 19th, one day past the deadline, I was logging it on the night of the 18th before I went to bed. I do, however, acknowledge that 5 minutes past the deadline is still past the deadline.
  • Logged Nottingham Tutoring

I logged my Nottingam Elementary tutoring on the website on 1-19-12, the day of the deadline. This, however, is flagged because I accidentally entered it as occuring on 1-4-12, making the 19th past the deadline. I logged this after school on Thursday while in the library.
  • Dismissal Letter Received

On Friday, 1-20-12 I received my dismissal letter in the mail. I typed up a 2 page word document with similar information as this timeline. My mom emailed Mr. Scheutz and Ms. Waldron with that document attached.
    I also checked my log.
    All A.A.: flagged
    FOL: Verified
    Turkey Trot: Verified
    Career Center Tutoring: unverified
    Nottingham Tutoring: flagged
  • Deborah Waldren emails back

On Sunday, 1-22-12, Ms. Waldron emailed back.
  • Making this timeline; noticing oddities

    My Log:
All A.A.: Verified (was flagged before)
    FOL: Flagged (was verified before)
    Turkey Trot: Verified
Career Center Tutoring: Flagged (was unverified before)
    Nottingham Tutoring: Flagged
*** Nottingham Tutoring occured on 1-5-12 and, thus, met the 2 week deadline.
