The U.S government creats an office that handels the countries realitonships with the 500 indian tribes.

The U.S and eight indian nations sign The Fort Laramie Treaty.

1851

They made a pact with eight indian nations. The pact says that indians will allow settlers safe passage through Indian territory in exchange for money.

Chief Sitting Bulls surrenders to U.S. troops.

Jul 20, 1881

Chief Sitting Bulls back down from U.S. troops and takes him to prison in South Dakota.

Jim Thorpe is named the greatest athlete of the first half of the 20th century.

1950

The first Native American is made a saint by the Catholic Church.
