Arthur St. Clair leading a punitive expedition against the Native Americans that live Ohio Valley be suprised in an early morning attack. Of his force of 1400 men suffers more than 900 casualties.

Creek-Spanish Alliance

Disappointed by the federal government's poor enforcement of the Treaty of New York. Creek chief Alexander McGillivraynegotiates a new treaty with Spain. Spain nd the Creeks agree to collectively resist American encroachment against Creek lands.

Murder of Doublehead

Aug 9, 1807

Major Ridge is involved in the killing of Doublehead, a Cherokee chief accused of negotiating unfavorable land sales with the US government against bribes.

The Trail of Tears

1836

President Andrew Jackson ordered all of the Cherokee tribe to walk from Mississippi to unsettled land in Oklahoma. More than 4'000 people died on the way. This long walk was later to be known as the Trail of Tears.

The U.S. and eight native american nations sign the Fort Laramie Treaty

1851

The U.S and eight native american nations sign the Fort Laramie Treaty. It says that the native americans will allow settlers safe passage through their territory in exchange for money. However, this treaty falls apart when gold is discovered and the settlers stay in the native american territory. This led to settlers digging up the native american land and a big contradiction between the two.

Sacheen Littlefeather makes a speech at the Academy Awards for Marlon Brando.

In protest of how the native americans have been treated in teh movie industry Marlon Brando asks a native american named Sacheen Littlefeather to make a speech and turn down his academy award. He won the Oscar award from his role in "The Godfather".
