Born in Reno, NV
-
My dad would ALWAYS read aloud to me before bed from as young as I can remember until about 4th grade when I liked reading on my own more.
-
I remember I liked to read "Good Night Moon" and "The Very Hungry Catipillar"
-
I would play school with myself and read all of these children's science and history books my mom had for me. I especially loved one about Pompey.
-
I started elementary school this year. Most of my Elementary school years were spent at Franklin schools
-
I started looking at and trying to read my dad's Discover magazines. He would explain the things I couldn't understand. I remember loving a story about bog mummies and learning about astronomy in 2nd grade.
-
My great-aunt bought me some of the books in the Ramona searies and I ended up reading them all!
-
I played piano, violin, guitar, and harp (at different times and some more consistently than others) growing up and, though I don't play an instrument well anymore, I can still read music well.
-
My dad read the first 3 Harry Potter books aloud to me before bed
-
After my parents got divorced, I lived with my grandparents in Tucson for a couple months over the summer. The 4th Harry Potter book came out that summer and it was the first one I read by myself. I read the subsequent books as well. I also remember reading and loving the entire Chronicle of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis.
-
My school had awards for students who read so many books. I loved reading and won the top award both years. I even remember reading on the playground instead of playing once.
-
I did poetry recitation contests in 2nd, 5th, and 6th grade and placed all three years.
-
During Jr. High, I started trying to read more science and non-fiction books
-
I grew up religious, but it wasn't a big part of my family's life. My freshman year of high school, I decided I wanted it to be a big part of my life and I read the Book of Mormon. I have since read the bible and other religious texts and continue to study them and attend church today.
-
I did speach and debate throughout high school. I wrote speaches and debates as well as did poetry recitation. I placed at several competitions.
-
I read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of time which became one of my favorite books and sparked in me a deep love of quantum theory.
-
I read a lot of science books and non-fiction political literature about war and the middle east this summer
-
The year of the 2008 presidential enection, I became very interested in politics (my interest was aided by my father who is a government teacher). I read a lot of political articles and documents and watched all of the debates and a lot of news. I even helped to revive the Young Democrat club at my high school and arranged for a debate with the republican club. We had a surprisingly large turnout. And the democrats won.
-
I wrote a speech and auditioned to speak at my high school graduation. I ended up being the keynote speaker.
-
My human event classes my freshmen year required me to read a lot of classical philosophy and write a lot about it. I learned that I really don't like philosophy. But it did make me a little more open minded in a lot of ways and changed the way I think about some things.
-
I continue to read whenever I can, though I mostly only have time for school texts now. My husband loves movies so I have learned to become more literate in cinema as well.
