I learned to type in 8th grade, on a manual typewriter.

I worked in my dad's law office, and I was thrilled when he got electric typewriters to type up those 20+ page legal documents.

When I got to college, I had to go to the library to type essays. I once got an F on an essay because I hadn't fixed my typos (there were lots!).
-
This is why my essay had so many typos - every time I typed the wrong letter, I had to stop, erase the mistaken letter (or use the tape that sort of covered it up), and then continue typing. Often, it wasn't worth it.

I worked for my dad again in 1986, and I was thrilled to type on a word processor! You could correct any mistakes you made before you printed, kind of like a computer that you could only type documents on.

I used my first Apple computer at a job I had with a production company. I had never seen such a wonderful idea as windows before in my life. Imagine being able to save your work to an external-ish drive (a floppy disk) to take and print whenever I wanted to!

After I had my first child, I supplemented our family income by typing students' essays for them. This is what our first computer looked like.

The first printers we owned were dot matrix printers, with holes along the sides to feed in a long sheet of paper. Still, I could edit essays and other documents before I printed them - a huge improvement!

Today I have a laptop that prints through blue tooth to my printer. I can take it literally anywhere. Ironically, however, I only use it for word processing. I like my hand-helds for internet searches, app use, and emails.

To go along with my laptop and other devices, I have a printer all-in-one that uses blue tooth. I can print from my laptop, my tablet and my phone. Wow!
