Between 1750 and 1850, the population in Sweden doubled. According to some scholars, mass emigration to America became the only way to prevent famine and rebellion; over 1% of the population emigrated annually during the 1880s.

A New Life Started
When my family, moved to America, they went straight Iowa knowing that it was one of the best farming states. John being a calvary man had little to no experience farming, but he took it up and tried. It actually was really successful. This is how the farming culture came in my family, and it still exists.

Two Rebels get Married
My grandpa being covanant-missionary turned his back on his family's religion and married my grandma who was methodist. This was very un-common in that time. My grandpa's parents were very unhappy.

Cultures Join
This is the day that the two cultures that I am today joined. Doug Ekstrand (dad) and Jeannette Lyne (mom) were married.
