Muhammad was born in Mecca in Arabia (what is now known as Sadia Arabia). His name means "to glorify, to praise" His mother Amina gave him to a nurse, Halima, who raised him according to the traditions of the tribe Sa'd ibn Bakr. He lived in a hill with this tribe where he learned the pure arabic of the tribe.

Around age 5 or 6 Muhammad went to Yathrib and on the way back his mother fell ill and died. After burring his mother in Abwa his nurse, Halima, took him back home to Mecca where his grandfather became his gradian. Abdul Al-Muttalib, his gradian, was in charge of important pilgrimage to Mecca and was the most respected leader. He also presided over the Council of Elder in Mecca.

After his grandfather's death in 578, Muhammad was then put into the care of this uncle, Abu Talib. He remained under his care for many years. People have not given attention to Muhammad's past as a orphan or has acknowledged how it effect his life.

Muhammad worked as a shepherd as a young man in order to pay his uncle and nurse for all that they have done. He would sometimes travel with his uncle to trade center as a merchant. He would also help his uncle sell.

In his twenties Muhammad worked for a Meccan merchant, Khadija. They were distant cousin, and he would help her carry her belongings north.

He married his distant cousin Khadija when she was about 40, and he was about 25. He continued to work for her and manager her business. they had six children 2 boys who died as babies and 4 girls.

Muhammad would make trips to a mountain cave that was outside of the town. It was here that he mediated and fasted, and one day he had claimed to be visited by an overpowering presence. This experience scared him and he did not share with his family for many years.

After several of these revelations that he began to share what he has experienced with the public. The words that he spoke to his tribe became the verse in the Qur'an. He and his followers were under constant attack form going against the traditional Mecca tribe traditions.

Muhammad and a couple hundred of his followers left Mecca and went to Yathrib. This city was remained Medina "the city after the Prophet" after Muhammad being there for 6 years building Islam and gaining more and more followers.

Nearing the end of his life Muhammad returns to Medina from his conquest to Mecca. It was here that he converted most of the Arabian Peninsula to Islam. He made one last trip to Mecca were thousands of Muslims followed him. Upon his return he died form a illness and was buried in a mosque in Medina.
