When Muhammad was about six his mother took him to a town a few hundred miles north of Mecca to see family. On the journey home his mom became ill and died. His nurse returned with Muhammad in Mecca and placed him in the hands of his paternal grandfather who raised him up

He began to make long retreats to a mountain cave where he fasted and meditated. He was visited by a overpowering presence who instructed him to recite words of the Qu'ran.

In 624, the Muslims won their first battle against the Meccans. As the latter had a much larger army, the former took the victory as a sign that God was on their side. However, in a later battle they were not victoriou. In 627, the Meccans attacked Medina, and Medina came outlasted the mecca army.

In 630, Muhammad and his forces marched to Mecca and defeated it. The Prophet rededicated the Ka'ba temple to Allah and witnessed the conversion to Islam of nearly the entire Meccan population

In March, 632, he returned to Mecca one last time to perform a pilgrimage, and tens of thousands of Muslims joined him. After this he returned to Medina and three years later on June 8, 632 he died from an illness although his teachings lived on.

His grandfather died shortly after and Muhammad was taken into the care of a paternal uncle.

he married Khadija when he wass 25 and she was 40 years old. They had six children 2 sons who died and 4 daughters.
