  • XYZ Affair

    a diplomatic incident between French and United States diplomats that resulted in a limited, undeclared war known as the Quasi-War. U.S. and French negotiators restored peace with the Convention of 1800.
  • Convention of 1800

    was a treaty between the United States of America and France to settle the hostilities that had erupted during the Quasi-War.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana purchase was the acquisition of the Louisiana territory. the states include: Louisiana, Nebraska, Missouri, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Iowa. Also parts of Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Kansas, and Minnesota.
  • Embargo Act

    Imposed a general embargo that made any and all exports from the United States illegal. It was backed by President Thomas Jefferson and enacted by Congress.
  • War of 1812

    A military conflict that lasted from June 18, 1812, to February 18, 1815, fought between the United States of America and the United Kingdom.The White House was even burned to the ground during this war!
  • Treaty of Ghent

    It ended the war without presenting any gains for either side. It basically returned to each side the territory it had possessed before the beginning of the war and said nothing about impressments.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    This doctrine stated that the United States would not tolerate European intervention in the affairs of any independent nation in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine also stated that the Americas were no longer open to further colonization and that the United States would view such attempts as an act of aggression.
