  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    President Washington passed the proclamation of Neutrality to stay out of other nations wars. The war that Washington wanted to stay out of when he passed this was the war between Britain and France.
  • XYZ Affair

    French representatives tried to bride Americans. This enraged Americans they felt that it was inappropriate. Causes much tension between the two nations for some time.
  • Convention of 1800

    After the XYZ Affair tension between France and the United States were high. The convention was able to settle the problems between the two nations without a war having to come out of the anger.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    A purchase of land that doubled the size of the United States. President Jefferson bought the land for 30 million frances from France.
  • Embargo Act

    President Jefferson asked congress to pass the act. The Embargo act ended up being a problem for the nation because the economy could not take not having the outgoing trade money coming in.

    War of 1812

    Britain was attacking American ships and stealing the workers and forcing them to fight against France for them. This upset the American people and they went to war with Britain to stop the acts of Britain.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    was signed between Britain and United Stated to end the War of 1812. Neither party gained anything by signing this treaty.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    This was President Monroe telling the people of the United States that they needed to stay away form the land to the west.
