  • Proclimation of Neutrality

    This was a document that stated that America was neutral in the fight between France and England

  • XYZ Affair

    Although this was not the exact date this occurred, this is when the affair was uncovered. France officials had tried to bribe Americans. It was discovered after England heard that America had signed a treaty with France.

  • Convention of 1800

    Resulted in a treaty between the United States of America and France to settle the hostilities that had erupted during the Quasi-War.

  • Lousiana Purchase

    This was when Napoleon sold the territory of the French, 820,000,000 acres of land across the west, to Thomas Jefferson

  • Embargo Act

    This act prevented American ships from trading with foreign ports

  • War of 1812

    A military conflict that lasted from June 18, 1812, to February 18, 1815, fought between the United States of America and the United Kingdom.The White House was even burned to the ground during this war. It increased nationalism in America

  • Treaty of Ghent

    This treaty ended the war without giving any gains for either side. It basically returned to each side the territory it had possessed before the beginning of the war.

  • Monroe Doctrine

    This doctrine stated that the United States would not tolerate European intervention in the affairs of any independent nation in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine also stated that the Americas were no longer open to further colonization and that the United States would view such attempts as an act of aggression.
