    The XYZ Affair was between the United States and France. The U.S. didn't want to side with any country, thus creating the Jay Treaty. France was angry with the treaty due to Great Britain receiving a more higher trading rank, therefore France took control over U.S. merchant ships, causing chaos between France and the U.S.

    The Proclamation of Neutrality didn't allow the United States to be in wars between two or more other powers anymore, especially with France and Great Britain and had legal proceedings against American citizens who tried to help any country with war.

    The Convention of 1800, also known as the Treaty of Mortefontaine, was an agreement between the French and the United States. The French had agreed to give back captured American ships in return to the U.S. paying $20 million damages by the French on American shipping.
