    China is trading with Great Britian for opium. Opium was illegal in Great Britian at the time because of how dangerous it was. A merchant wrote a letter to the queen and she wasn't happy.
  • Sino-Japanese War

    China and Japan fights for control of parts of China. During this war, China loses a lot of land.
  • Boxer Rebellion (Uprising)

    Boxer Rebellion (Uprising)
    The boxer rebellion was the event that destroyed the final dynasty of China. The boxers tried to drive the forigeners out of China.
  • Open Door Policy

    Open Door Policy
    U.S forced China to open up their trading ports for the west.
  • Communist Party Formed

    Communist Party Formed
    The communist party was formed and lead by Mao Zedong who had the simple life of a peasant and didn't want classes.
  • Long March

    Long March
    Mao Zedoung marches communist away from the Guomindang (Nationalists). The Guomindang had attacked the communist. They tried to surround the Communist.
  • Nationalist flee to Taiwan/Mao controls Communist China

    Nationalist flee to Taiwan/Mao controls Communist China
    Communist chased the Nationalist to Taiwan. Then the Communist took over China.
  • Beginning of the Great Leap Forward

    Beginning of the Great Leap Forward
    The Great Leap Forward was when Mao tried to change the farms to collectives. It failed and Mao was not able to be making decisions for the communist.
  • End of relationship/alliance between the Soviet Union and China

    End of relationship/alliance between the Soviet Union and China
    The alliance was formed by the Soviets and the Republic of China. It was broken so China could fight the Soviet's ally, Vietnam.

    Mao Zedong used kids to be a police force known as the Red Guards. He also humiliated teachers and other educated people.
