  • British Migrants

    Our modes of entertainment, food, fashion, sporting culture and our social values and attitudes were largely dictated by British culture. The British brought in new and simpler ways to do jobs.
  • Jewish Migrants

    The first Jews came to Australia as convicts transported to Botany Bay in 1788 aboard the First Fleet that established the first European settlement on the continent. Many of the immigrant Jews were holocaust survivors who arrived during and after World War II. The Jewish immigrants brought with them their culture, food and traditions influencing the Australians around them.
  • Irish Migrants

    They brought their religion (Christianity), they also brought their drinking culture and they brought popular foods and cuisine such as stew and various potato dishes.
  • Chinese Migrants

    The Chinese have contributed to Australia by providing medical herbs, fresh food and vegetables like spring onions, Chinese restaurants, Chinese goods like tea silk for clothes
    Chinese settled as market gardeners or farm hands. Some set up small grocery stores or fruit and vegetable-hawking businesses in country towns. Others worked around Melbourne in a variety of pursuits, including import-export businesses, laundry operations, cabinet making and in medicine.
  • Armenian Migrants

    The Armenian community in Australia is estimated to be 50,000 people who primarily reside in Sydney and Melbourne.
    The Sydney Armenian community numbers at about 40,000 people and has cultural centres, three day schools, a weekly newspaper and churches. The Armenian-Australian community’s contribution to aspects of Australian life outweighs its size. The community takes pride in the significant contributions that have been recorded in politics, business, academia, sports and culture.
  • Greek Migrants

    Made Melbourne to have the second most inhabitants of greek people second to Athens and helped build the Snowy Hydro.
  • Lebanese Migrants

    The Lebanese contributed many jobs such as the labour section. This includes building and construction work. Lebanese people have contributed to Australia socially and in culture. An example of this is the amount of churches opened. St Joseph's Maronite catholic Parish (Croydon), St Charbel's church are examples of churches in Sydney. Lebanese people also brought a variety of foods to Australia, this includes the typical kebab and other things.
  • Vietnamese Migrants

    The Vietnamese have contributed a large variety of food and Vietnamese restaurants.
  • Croatian Migrants

    Croatian community took part in celebrations when Croatian independence was recognised in 1992, and when Croatia became a member of the United Nations during that same year.
