This was a letter written by Brtitish Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour to Lord Rothschild. It said that Palestine had full support form Britain. -
The Holocaust
The Holocaust was a systematic mass murder of people. Over 11 million people were killed during this time. It is estimated that about 6 million Jews were killed during this time. -
six day war
This was when Israel defending themselves from Arab attacks. Most of the fighting was against Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. At the end of the six days, Israel had demolished all of their enemies. -
Arab Oil Embargo
THis was when Arab members of Opec refused to give America oil. They wouldn't give it to us unless we sold Isreal military weapons. Finally after a lot of negotiation the embargo was lifted. -
Yom Kippur War
THis was when the Egyptians and syrians attacked Israel.They attacked becuase they wanted back the land they lost in the 6 day war. They attacked on Yom Kippur which is a Jewish holdiay. This added more fuel to the fire when it comes to the religions hating each other. -
Jimmy Carter Becomes president
In 1977 Jimmy Carter became the 39th president of the united states. He was responsible for the Camp David Accords. He made it so that the Egypt and Israel signed the treaty so that there would be peace between the two countries. -
Camp David Accords
This was a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. It stated that Israel had to leave the Sinai Peninsula. It also stated that Israel had to move away from multiple parts of land they took over. -
Iran Hostage Crisis
This was when an angry group of muslims got into the U.S. Embassy, located in Tehran, and they held more than 60 Americans hostage. A long time passed and the president refused to doanything about the hostages because he thought that it would only cause more problems. -
Soviets Invade Afghanistan
This was when Russia invaded Afghanistan so that they could improve the People's Democratic party of Afghanistan. -
Ronald Regan Becomes President
In 1981 Ronald Reagan became the 40th president. -
George H. W. Bush becomes president
He didn't have much involvement with the middle east. He just wanted peace with them. -
Desert Storm
This was when Sadam Hussein threatened some middle eastern countries. So those countires called upn the US to help. The US was responsible for the assasination of Saddam Hussein. -
Bill CLinton becomes president
Bill Clinton helped bring peace between Israel and Palestine. He helped them come to terms and sign a treaty. It seems to still be working today. -
World Trade Center 1993
THis was when a bomb went off in a van in the parking garage. It created a 60 foot crater and collapsed some concrete floors. Later it was found ut that some Arab extremists were responsible. -
Centrazbat
A military camp in Asia. It was used to train soldiers in the middle east. They were trained to defend themseves against any attacks that may occur in the middle east becuase of instability. -
Embassy Bombing In Kenya
This was when a leader of Al Qaeda named Al Libi commited an act of terrorism in Kenya. He ordered a group of terrorists to bomb a five story embassy building. Over 220 people were killed and over 4,500 people were injured in the exploson. -
Embassy Boming in Tanazania
This was very similar to the bombing in Kenya. Arab enemies detonated a bomb at an embassy building in Tanzania. -
USS Cole
This was when the ship USS Cole was bombed. It was done by suicide bombers. It was later proven to be Al Queda. 17 men were killed in the attack. -
World Trade Center 2001
THis was when Osama bin Laden planned an attack on the world trade centers. More than 3 thousand people died in the attack. The plan was for the terrorists to hijack planes and then crash them into the world trade centers. The reason Al Queda did this is becuase they were angered that American troops were in the middle east. -
Iraq 2001- Present
Ever since George W. Bush sent troops to Iraq it has seemed to settle down. It probably hasn't since we killed Osama Bin Laden but their have been no imediate threats that I know of.
