  • Rubi, Marques de

    Rubi, Marques de
    King Carlos III appointed Rubi the inspector of the frontier and presidios and commissioned him to ecomonic abuses and other ugurgent matters. Rubi went to Mexico City in mid-December in 1765. On March 12, Rubi set out on his inspection. As a result, Rubi recommended that Spain reorganize it's frontier defenses. When King Carlos III died in 1788, Rubi accepted retirement at about the age 63.
  • Philip Nolan

    Philip Nolan
    In the 1790's Philip came to Texas. In 1800, Govener Juan Bautista de Elguezabal, ordered Nolan's arrest. When Nolan returned to Texas on another expedition and was killed near present-day Waco, Texas.
  • Father Miguel Hildalgo

    Father Miguel Hildalgo
    He led the fisrt revolt against Spanish rule in Mexico. In September 16, 1810 Hildalgo arrested two Spainyards, then rang the church bell and called upon Indians and mestizos to make a speech where he called for a rebellion so that Mexicans can govern Mexico. He was later shot and killed for his "crimes" by Spain.
  • Dr. James Long

    Dr. James Long
    He was leader of the Long expedition and joined the U.S Army as a surgeon in the war of 1812. In 1817 James Long was associated with W.W Walker in buisness. He was later imprisoned in San Antonio in Monterrey. On the day of April 8, 1822, Dr. James Long was shot by a gaurd in Mexico City.

    Jose de Gutierrez de Lara
    During Mexican war of independence, Jose and his brother were successful in formenting revolution in Nuevo Santander. In January 1812, Jose and Alvarez made plans to liberate Texas and Mexico. In April 1812, William Shaler, special agent of U.S and Jose Gutierrez were in Natchitoches, where the Gutierrez- Magee expediton assembled and set out for Texas.
  • Augustus Magee

    Augustus Magee
    Augustus Magee used to be a highly ranked officer in the U.S Army, but left on June 22, 1812. Later, Magee, Peter Samuel Davenport, and Jose Benardo MaxiMiliano Gutierrez de Lara were soon laying out plans to invade Texas. He then started to recruit forces to be in the Gutierrez-Magee expedition. On August 2, 1812 Magee left Natchidoches on August 12, 1812 and crossed the Sabine River on August 8. In the middle of September, Magee became ill, but remained in command of expedition until Febuary 6

    Batttle of Medina
    The battle of Medina was fought on August 18, 1813. It was the bloodiest battle in Texas. A declaration of independence for Texas under Republic of Mexico was proclaimed on April 6, 1813.

    Jean Lafitte
    Jean was a special agent for spain, but soon turned against them to help Mexico get it's independence. In 1819 Jean made a settlement in Galveztown (Galveston)

    Mexican Federal Constitution
    The Constitutional government in Texas began with the Mexican federal constitution of 1824, which was patterened after the U.S constitution. The congress was composed of two houses meeting anually from January 1 to April 15. The Supreme Court had eleven judges and the attorney general.
  • State Colonization Law

    State Colonization Law
    After the fall of Iturbide, Mexico adopted a federal system similar to the U.S federal system. The federal congress passed the national colonization law on August 18, 1824. This law became the basis of all colonization contracts affecting Texas, execpt Austin's first contract.

    Merger of Coahuila y Texas
    They wrote the Federal Constitution of the United States of Mexico on October 4, 1824. It called for a constitutional arrangment, which the national government would grant powers to the state.
  • State Constitution (Couhuila y Texas)

    State Constitution (Couhuila y Texas)
    The state of Couhuila and spanish province of Texas were combined as the state of Coahuila and Texas. The legislature for the new state was organized at Saltillo in August 1824. More than two years were spent framing the constitution, which was then published in March 11, 1827.
