    Battle of San Jacinto

It all started with the Battle of San Jacinto as Houston's army attacked General Santa Anna and the Mexican army. Arguing Over the Border

The beginning all started when Mexico wanted to take back Texas and the U.S recognized Texas as a U.S plot to steal Texas. Mexico was scared that the U.S was going to annex Texas, so in response, Anglos raided the city of Loreda at the Rio Grande. This is important because this is one of the reasons why the war was triggered.
  • Gold Rush

    Gold Rush

Gold was found. However, the Anglos see the Spanish speaking individuals as foreign intruders, so there was mob violence and lynching which caused deaths of many Mexican miners. This is important because the Mexicans were being mistreated and unprotected. The Mexicans quickly outnumbered the Anglos in California and they get to hold on to their influence and power.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe

    Treaty of Guadalupe

The Treaty of Guadalupe was a peace treaty between the U.S and Mexico, however they still do not trust each other. It granted the U.S, title to almost half of Mexico's territory. Sooner or later, gold was discovered in California. This is important because after giving almost half their land to the U.S, they had discovered gold which is going to make them rich. The Mexicans might interfere and regret it and might want to be involved.
  • Land Act of 1851

    Land Act of 1851

The Land Act was a commission to examine land titles as squatters became more popular. Squatters illegally settle on land that is not theirs. Therefore, the Land Act forced California landowners to defend their land titles. Since the cost was too high, Californios had to sell part of their land. This is important because it was not fair to those who owned land and there were other individuals living on it undocumented.
