    This is the reason the war started. Because in 1845, Texas joined the United States as the 28th state. Mexico didn't like that the United States took over Texas. There also was a disagreement over the border of Texas. Mexico said the border was at the Nueces River while Texas claimed the border was further south at the Rio Grande River.

Thus, the roots of this war long precede the fighting that began on April 25th, 1846.

The Battle of Resaca de la Palma begins when Mexican troops attack Fort Texas, which they believe is located in Mexican territory. Mexican troops are forced to retreated and suffer anywhere between 250 and 400 casualties.

It was believed that during the siege, Mexican military cadets called niños heroes committed suicide instead of surrender

    The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, signed on February 2, 1848, ended the Mexican-American War in favor of the United States. The war had begun almost two years earlier, in May 1846, over a territorial dispute involving Texas. The war finally ended.

    On February 2, 1848, Mexico officially conceded territories to the United States after sealing the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. It was then ratified by the U.S Congress on March 10th and on May 25th by the Mexican Congress. They were over 29 battles fought during the Mexican-American War and those won by the Mexicans in the siege of Los Angeles.
