During the Warring States period (403-221bc), Hua Wan, in battle often became distinguished, and as a reward was granted the area. The descendants of Hua Wan then took the surname of the place, Wei.
Wei Name Meaning and History -
In April of 1895, Japan started it's long journey of occuping Taiwan. This went on util 1945 until finally Taiwan became its own counrty.
Taiwan's 400 years of History -
On September 1, 1939 the Nazis invaded Poland which started the second world war. For my grandfather, Japan had already started occuping Taiwan. Alhough he was not born, it was still a big issue around the world.

My grandfather was born in Taiwan, a small island in Asia, but it was during the Japanese occupation period. Then my great grandfather decided to move to Japan to buy land where he ran a lumber yard in Tokyo which later became some of the apartments that are there today. So, when my grandfather was 15, him and his family moved to Japan, where the family still lives today.

In 1964, my grandfather, Wen Chen Wei immigrated from Japan to the US when he was 30. He flew to Philidelphia and then started his residency to become a nerosurgeon.

My grandfather accepted a position with the department of engery at Lawerence Labrotory in Berkley, CA to be one of the first surgeons in the US to use lasers in back and brain surgeries.

In 1970, my grandfather, Wen Chen Wei, finally got his US citizenship.
