JFK at CYO event My Grandfather met JFK a week before he was shot. This trip to a New York CYO event and continued the trip to Tampa, FL and then Dallas, TX where he was shot.

My grandfather grew up in Waterford, NY which is close. to Saratoga. He was the first 5 kids with 2 sisters, Jill and Corky and @ brothers, Tom and Bob. Him and his 4 siblings lived on a street with friends they are all still close with now.

On October 21st, 1967, 50,000 people, mostly college students protested the use of troops in Vietnam. This demonstration was a rally at West Potomac Park near the Lincoln Memorial and a march to the Pentagon, where another rally would be held in a parking lot, followed by civil disobedience on the steps of the Pentagon itself. The action was known as the "March on the Pentagon and 650 people were arrested.

My grandfather worked at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland. Thule Air Base, or Thule Air Base/Pituffik Airport, is the United States Air Force's northernmost base, located 1,207 km north of the Arctic Circle and 1,524 km from the North Pole on the northwest side of the island of Greenland.

My grandfather joined the intramural basketball league at the Air Force base. From the stories he told, this was the first time that he interacted with people who weren't white. In the picture my grandfather is in the back all the way to the right. This basketball team was rather diverse and he remembers being nervous to interact with these people at first because it was so new, but he ended up being great friends with all of them.

At the Thule Air Force base the average temperature for January is a nice -20 degrees Fahrenheit.Everyday they had to wear large, thick jackets outside.

My grandfather was at the LA Air Force base when he got to meet Robert Kennedy and took multiple pictures of him. Similar to his experience wit JFK, RFK was shot just 4 days after my grandfather met him.
