    In this 1803 landmark decision, the supreme court first asserted the power of judicial review.
  • Louisiana Purchase:

    In 1803 U.S. acquisition of the Louisiana territory from france for 15 million. The purchase secured American control of the Mississippi River and doubled the size of the nation. Jefferson wanted to buy the Louisiana territory to expand land. and it would double the size of the United States.
  • War of 1812

    War between britain and the united states. The U.S. justified the war by saying the British violated America’s rights as a country.
  • Adam Onis Treaty

    The Adam-Onis Treaty between the U.S. and Spain ceded the territory of Florida to the U.S. and set up borders between the U.S. and New spain (Which is modern day spain).
  • Missouri Compromise

    The compromise passed by Congress, stated that if Missouri was to be a slave state, Maine would be added as a free state to balance the power. It also established the Mason-Dixon line as the border of free and slave states. Any territory north of the line could not practice slavery.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    James Monroe expressed near the end of his presidency his idea of foreign policy. It stated that all of the Old World, should not interfere in the affairs of the New World. It was considered the policy of the U.S. for a long period of Time.
