The thirteen original colonies were the base of Manifest Destiny. We got the thirteen colonies by military conquest. The thirteen colonies gave the colonists/ American people freedom. -

The Manifest Destiny was a period of time when the U.S. started expanding westward from the Original Thirteen Colonies, to the Gadsden Purchase. -
Northwest Territory
The Northwest Territory was obtairned by Military conquest. THe states of Wisconsin, Ohio,Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan were created. The requirements for states was to have 60,000 people, education, a Bill of Rights, state constitution, and the state must be approved by Congress. -
Louisiana Purchase
The United States purchased this land from France, through treaty for 15 million dollars. The Mississippi River and New Orleans was so important to this purchase because it offered transportation and an easy way to ship goods. The purchase of this land doubled the size of the U.S. -
Adams-Onis Treaty
During this time southerns were upset because their land was being invaded by Seminole Indians. President Monroe sent General Andrew Jackson to Flordia, where he committed an unconstitutional act. The treaty stated that Spain would give East Flordia and its claims of West Flordia to the U.S. The U.S. would give its claims of Texas to Spain. -
Texas Annexation
Americans moved to Texas because it offered more land, economic opportunities, and they were aloud to have slaves without them being taken away. Mexican government changed their ways. Slavery was made illegal, you had to obey Mexican laws and become part of the Catholic church. There was an increase of population as Texas became a republic. Texas also had many problems as a republic. It was nearly bankrupt and was still being taken control of by Mexico. Texas could not join the U.S. in union. -
Oregon Territory
The United States and Great Britain originaly controlled the Oregon Territory. This control led to both sides wanting to maintain use of the Columbian River and its surrounding land, but both countries did not want to start a war over this. The United States gained Oregon, Washinton, and Idaho. -
Mexican Cession
The first main issue that Mexico had was the annexation of Texas. Mexico wanted to aqquire Texas, but it was already approved annexation by the U.S. This led to the Mexican-American war. The Treaty of Guadalupe ended the Mexican-American War. Under the Mexican Cession the U.S. gained California, Nevada, and Utah. They also gained parts of Colarado and Wyoming. This neary completed the United States. -
Gadsden Purchase
The U.S. agreed to purchase land under the Gadsden purchase because there was benefits that they would gain from the land. The United States payed 10 million dollars for Arizona and New Mexico. With the addition of the Gadsden Purchase the southern border of the U.S. was finally fixed. -
Manifest Destiny is Complete
Manifest Destiny is now complete because foreign countries can't take away the land that the Uniteds States purchased and/or fought for.
