The Northwest Territory
The United States gained the northwest territory by winning the american revolution against Great Britain.The States that were created out of this territory were the five states, ohio,winsconsin,michigan,Indiana,Illinois.The requirements that were created were the population reached60000 people,drafted state constitution,have a bill of rights, a public education system, no slavery and permission from congress. -
The Loisiana Purchase
We obtained the Louisiana territory by buying it from france.The Mississippi River and New Orleans was important to the U.S. economy because the Mississppi was a pathway for good to be traveled fast and cheaply which lowered good prices and improved the economy and new Orleans was the trade port.The president credited with the purchase was Thomas Jefferson and spent 15 million doubling the size of America. -
The Adams-Onis-Treaty
Te southerners were upset with Native Americans because some people wanted to settle in florida and that the seminole Indians raided U.S. towns and aided runaway slaves.So President Mnroe sent Andrew Jacksonwho invaded seminole territoy and took over most of spains military post which was unconstitutional because he didn't get orders.In the end they agredd america gets florida and spain gets texas. -
Texas Annexation
The word Annex means to take control of land and incorperate it into a state or country.The Americans moved to Texas because the Mexican government promised cheap land and that each mand would receive 640 acrres of land and they could bring slaves.But the Mexican government banned their religion, banning slavery, and new laws.The start of the republic happened because they forced new laws on them prisoned Austin who led a rebellion then the battle of alamo then when the texans won san ja cinto. -
Texas continued
The problems in texas were that te texans wanted more power in government and idnt obey laws and had no respect for mexican government and made the economy bad.The U.S. did not aloow texas to enter as a union state because then the south would hold power in office and make slavery legal throughout the country. -
Oregon Country
The countries that originally had oregon territory was russia and spain.The U.S. was trying to avoid war over this land with Britain so they made a treaty that allowed u.s to own oregon territory.The state that was added was oregon. -
Mexican Cession
The issue that led the U.S. to war with Mexico was that America annexated Texas and this angered Mexico beause they considered it stolen property.The name of the treaty that ended the Mexican American war was the treaty of Guadalupe hidalgo.The U.S. states that were created out of it was california,Nevada, and Utah. -
Gasden Purchase
The U.S. agreed to purchase the land under the Gasden purchase because they finally had a border between U.S. mexico and canada and they wanted to avoid war.The United States payed 10 milloion for the Gasden purchase and the states created were Arizona and New Mexico.The Gasden purchase finally fixed the problem of having continental borders and manifest destiny was complete becaaause they owned every thing from the atlantic and the pacific under and above their borders.
