    Louisiana Purchase
    In 1803, Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Purchase from the leader of France, Napoleon. Thomas was looking to buy only Louisiana so that he could control the Mississippi River, but he got all of it instead. He payed $15,000,000 for 828,000 acres costing a cheap 4 cents an acre. Thomas Jefferson was scared about making the purchase because he didn't ask congress if he could buy it.
  • Corps of Discovery Expedition

    Corps of Discovery Expedition
    After the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark went on an expedition to explore the new land. They went with a total of 35 other men to find the northwest passage, a waterway going to the Pacific Ocean. On the way they met lots of Indians, some friendly and some not. During the trip though someone named Sacagewea joined them, she was their translator and guide. Only 2 men died which was rather surprising considering that there were so many men.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The War of 1812 was between USA and Great Britain. It lasted for 2 and a half yearsr and no one won. It was known as the Revolutionay War Part II and the War of Poor Communication. It was known as the War of Poor Communication because the last and biggest battle could have been prevented. The treaty of Ghint had already been signed that ended the war but the Battle of New Orleans had already started and no one had known it was signed.
  • Florida Territory

    Florida Territory
    Andrew Jackson was sent to Florida as a military general to settle border disputes but did everything but that. He invaded Spanish forts and overthrew the governor of the Florida Territory. What he was supposed to do was settle border disputes between the Seminole Indians and American settlers. Florida used to be bigger than it is today, its panhandle was a lot higher up. After Andrew Jackson invaded the Florida Territory, the USA bought it for $5,000,000 as a part of the Adams Onis Treaty.

    The Monroe Doctrine
    The Monroe Doctrine was signed by James Monroe to keep people from the eastren hemisphere out of the Americas. Nobody was allowed to come to neither North or South America. It was considered a hostile act if they tried to settle in our land. To sum it up it said that we didn't care what was going on on the other side of the oceans.
  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
    The Indian Removal act was signed by Andrew Jackson and forced Indians to move to Oklahoma. It affected the Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, Choctaw, and Chicsaw. The Cherokee was affected most and had soldiers guiding them along the way. They had to travel the Trail of Tear. There is a myth that where every tear that was shed landed, a poppy grew.
  • Texas

    Texas
    Texas became a state after many lost battles and people. In the battle of the Alamo Texas lost all 189 troops. The remaining that survived the initial battle were killed by the leader Santa Anna. The battle that gained Texas independence only lasted 18 minutes. The Texans fought their hardest and captured the leader of Mexico right away and threatened him to give Texas it's independence or die. After 9 years of Texas being independent it joined the USA.
  • Oregon Territory

    Oregon Territory
    James K. Polk's slogan was 54,40 or fight. Those numbers meant the line of latitude of the edge or the territory that he wanted from Great Britain. Although he did not get all the land he wanted, he still ended up getting half of it. The USA and Britain compromised on the 49 degree line in the Oregon Treaty.
  • Mexican American War

    Mexican American War
    When Mexico refused to sell the land east of Texas, we went to war with them. America won and payed $15,000,000 as a part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. We gained the states California, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada.This purchase made the USA look a lot like the America we live in today.
