Louisiana Purchase
The greatest purchase ever made was in 1803 by the US. We got the Louisiana territory from France becasue Nopolean was broke and he still needed money to fight other counteries. Corps of Discovery Expedition
The Corps of Discovery Expedition was a way to make friends with the native americans, find new landmarks such as waterways, plants and animals, and to find the Northwest Passage. They did not find the Northwest Passage but they did make friends with the natives and found new plants and animals. -
War of 1812
The War of 1812 was between Great Britain and the US. The war lasted a long two and a half years and ended in a stalemate. The treaty that ended the war was called the treaty of Ghent was signed on December 24, 1814. -
Florida Territory
The United States got the Florida territory from Spain in 1819. We bought it for 5 million dollars but first Andrew Jackson invaded. This was the time that the indian removal act started and they got all natives out of the land. the origianal reason Andrew Jackson was there was because he had to guard the border from run away native americans. -
The Monroe Doctrine
In 1820 the spanish colonies declared independence. in 1821 Mexico broke away from Spain. the main reason that we issued the Monroe Docterine was because we were concered about the Russians and Europeans wanting the Northwest and settling in North America. -
Indian Removal Act & Trail of Tears
in 1830 the Indian Removal Act was a law passed by congress allowing Andrew Jackson the ability to remove Native Americans from there homes and moving them to reservations. they had to take the trail of tears to get to those reservations and many people died on the way. -
Texas
Texas gained independence from Mexico in 1836 and became the Republic of Texas. Sam Houston later became president of Texas. in 1845 Texas joined the United States. people who lived in texas were called texans not Americans. -
Mexican American War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
in 1846 we went to war against mexico and in 1848 we signed th treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Mexico lost 1/3 of its territory which are modern day California, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. James k Polk was named Mr. Manifest Destiny because he gained more land as president than any other did. -
Oregon Territory
The oregon territory was claimed by 4 counteries, Great Britain, the United States and two other counteries.we Threatened to fight but never did. he famous slogan was 54,40 or fight. Eventually we established the 49 degree line of latitude and gained Oregon.
