    Schlieffen Plan
    The Schlieffen plan was created by General Count Alfred Von Schlieffen in December of 1905. The plan was the plan to defeat France in a 6 month war, while Frances allys, Russia were mobilizing their troops. The i dea was to invade France by passing through Belguim, Catching the French offguard and surrounding them. Aware of Belgiums treaty of neutrality between them and Britian, Germany took the risk of the Europe coming into the war. Britian entered the war, and ruined the Schlieffen plan.

    Asassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand
    On the 28th of June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenburg, were shot dead by Gavrilo Princip, a member of a Bosnian-Serb group called the Black Hand. Austria issued an Ultimatum to Serbia. Serbia denied Austrias ultimatum and were now at war. This caused Russia and France(Serbias allys) to mobilize their troops.

    Germans Isuue Unrestricted submarine warfare. This means any vessel coaght in enemy waters will be sunk regardless if they are carrying war material or not.

    British passenger liner Lusitania Sunk
    On May 2nd 1915, the British passenger liner the "Lusitania" was sunk by a torpedo From a German submarine. 1195 passengers including 128 Americans, lost their lives. This caused the Americans to put pressure on their government to enter the war. It also made the Germans hold back a little to see if the Americans would actually join.

    German plane FokkerThe fokker revolutionized the war and gave the germans the upper land for the first 2 years. the fokker had a machine gun mounted onto the plane so the pilot could shoot and fly at the same time. A timing mechanism prevented gun from shooting out the propeller.

    The battle of Vimy ridge Was fought on the ninth of April, 1917. The battle was a major victory on the Canadians part becasue it was them who managed to evacuate the trenches of the Germans. The Canadians thought of a way to surprise the german forces way up on the rige by using a technique invented by the Canadains call the "Vimy Glide". The movement of soldier at 100 yards every 3 minutes while the rolling barage was taking place ahead of them, formed a cloud the Canadians could hide behind.

    The highest, and most defended point on Vimy Ridge, Hill 145 was the greatest accomplishment canadians made during the battle of Vimy Ridge. When the gassing of Hill 145 failed, and killed many of English and French troops, the Canadaians used urine soaked cloths to cover their face from the lethal gas. Furthermore it wasnt a regular battalion that conquered the Hill 145, it was infact the work battalion. A work force that had no experience of war had pulled off the reates feat at Vimy.

Lenin campaigns on a platform of Land, Bread, Peace; promises to redistribute land to peasants, ensure a ready supply of food, promises to get Russia out of the war.

    Treaty of Brest-Litovskwas a peace treaty signed on March 13th between Russia and the Central powers( triple alliance), marking Russias exit from the war. Lenin negotiates a peace agreement with Germany and its allies (Austria-hungary, and the ottoman empire). Lenin expected the treaty to be generous to Ruusia, they were wrong
  • Manfred von Richthofen "Red Baron" Shot Down

    Manfred von Richthofen "Red Baron" Shot Down
    The infamous "Red Baron" or Manfred von Richtofen was a German fighter pilot with the Imperial GErman Army Air Service (IGAAS). He is the highest ace on the charts of world war one, credited with 80 air combat victories. Richthofen was shot down and killed on 21 April 1918.

    The battle consisted of an offensive by the British and French armies against the German Army, which, since invading France in August 1914, had occupied large areas of the country. The Battle of the Somme was one of the largest battles of the war; by the time fighting paused in late autumn 1916 the forces involved had suffered more than 1 million casualties, making it one of the bloodiest military operations ever recorded.

    On August 8th 1918, thousands of German troops poured into France and push within 80km of Paris. The Canadians rush to perform one final great sweep against Germany and gain 20km in just three days. United States joins in and help push the Germans 130km almost all the way back to Germany.
