Mahatma Gandhi was born on the date of October 2, 1869. He was born in Porbandar, which was close by to Bombay.

During this time, Gandhi sent out a campaign against Britain. Gandhi felt confident and encouraged Indians to spin their own cotton and boycott British goods.

After Gandhi's imprisonment, he began another protest but this time about the salt tax. He and thousands of Indians marched 200 miles to a sea and collect their own salt. Because of this, he was jailed yet again.

He had retired as head of the party and was persuaded that India would never receive freedom due to the British Empire. Towards the beginning of World War II, he ordered independence for India because India had helped Britain prepare for war. Gandhi was then jailed again for the 3rd time.

On this day, Gandhi was off to pray in Delhi when someone came by and killed him. This person who killed Gandhi was a Hindu who was angered by him for wanting to friend Muslims and Hindus.
