The First Fleet

The Gold Rush
The gold rush was a series of time during the 1850's, when gold was discovered in Victoria and Southern New South Wales. At one stage, Ballarat was the highest producing gold town in the world. -
Eureka Stockade/Rebellion
The Eureka rebellion of 1854 is one of the most important events in Australia's history, caused by the extremely high prices of mining equipment and mining licences and heavy tax on gold. It started with the murder of James Scobie and the main suspect's pub - The Eureka Hotel - being burnt down. -

Ned Kelly hanged
Ned Kelly, Australia's most famous bushranger, was hung in the Old Melbourne Goal, for murder. Apparently, according to a diary made by one of the warders, the other warders made Ned say his final words, such is life, but he refused -
First Australian Cricket Team
The first Ashes test between the Australian colony and England was held where Australia well and truly beat England. The Ashes, came from some reporters saying how English cricket was dead and someone who got their hands on one of the bails, burnt it and kept the ashes in an urn, giving it to the Australian team. -

The Great War
Triggered by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, World War 1 or "The Great War" as it was known as at the time, was the second biggest war ever, after WW2. The allies, lead by the Soviets and the Brits had driven the undermanned Central Powers lead by Germany to ceasefire on 11/11/1918, also known as Armstice day. -

The capital city of Australia, Canberra, was established. It was Australia's only completely planned city and was made because neither Melbourne or Sydney could let the other be the capital city, so Canberra was established. -

Berlin Surrenders in WWII
The biggest war in the history of the world, World War 2. Caused by Germany trying to expand by invading Poland. Britian and France warned Germany that if they invaded, they would declare war. Germany invaded on the 1st of Sept. 1939 and the allied forces (Soviets, Britian, France, US, Canada, China, Australia and many more) declared war on the Axis (Germany, Japan, Italy, Hungary and more.)
It finished when the allies invaded Berlin, the center of the Axis, and Hitler commited sucicide. -
