Apr 25, 1846 US Troops stationed at Disputed Border General Mariano Arista comes to Matamoros to seise control of the mexican army and sends troops to cross the Rio Grande. They sorround a US scouting party and several are killed during the dispute. May 6, 1846 US declares war Taylor gets a letter from Polk and asks Congress to declare war on Mexico. May 9, 1846 US Victories Taylor's army wins both of the battles at Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma, driving the Mexicans back across the Rio Grande. Sep 14, 1847 Mexico City Surrendered U.S Army is in Mexico City. Feb 2, 1848 Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo Negoiators sign the Treaty of Guadelupe Hidaldgo, which is then rushed to Washington.
