    Birth of Kublai Khan

    Kublai Khan was born in 1215 on the 23rd of September to Tolui and Sorghaghtani Beki. This event is important because Kublai Khan eventually becomes the emperor Mongolia and later establishes the Yuan Dynasty in China. When he was born his grandfather the orginal Great Khan Genghis Khan saig that the future of the empire layed within Kublai and by saying that he was right

    First experience of ruling

    In 1236 Kublai was granted a small portion of Northern China to govern. This area was called the Hsing-Chou District.This was Kublai's first time as a ruler and ruled as an absentee ruler. While doing this he had officals collect and raise taxes.With the rising taxes the people got mad and left the area, realizing that what the people wanted had not been considered he quickly got ride of the officals and assigned the postions to local peasents that would stop the leaving.

    Marco Polo Birth

    Marco Polo was born in 1254 in Venice Italy. His father was a traveler and so that is what he did as well. He went to China for many years and worked for Kublai Khan for Many years. He returned many years later but was captuered in war and wrote a book about the stuff they had in China.

    Campaign against Veitnam

    In 1257 Kublai Khan lead an attack on Vietnam that was unsuccessful. They failed due to the skill of the vietnamese archers and the campaigin leader brought shame upon himself becuase he hid in a golden tube. Kublai tried two more times to conquer Vietnam but failed both other times.

    Kablai Khan as Leader

    In 1260 after Kublai's brother Mangku Khan died he ascended to the throne. He was 45 when he came to power and his first order of business was to get a wife or the perfect wives. Unlike his bloodthirsty ancestors Kublai Khan was no warrior instead he was more of political man. Since he was more of a political man he made a new system of money: Paper money not gold he did this so he did not have to spend any of his valuable jewels and gold. Also while leader he was declared a Great Khan

    War with his brother

    In 1261 Kublai's own younger brother declared war on him because he wanted the throne for himself. Kublai's brother Arigboge lead his army against Kublai's. His army was small compared to Kublai's. Kublai's was about 50,000 troops and within days they defeated his brother's army. Kublai's brother was in shame for losing and was forbbiden to speak to Kublai for 1 year and his generals were slaughtered by their own wills.

    Conquest for Southern China

    Started conquest to take over Southern China. His stragey in doing so was the he advanced down the Yangtze River which allowed easy access for the Mongol Army to attack the Chinesee cities of Hsiang-Yang and Fanch'eng which were the last Sung Strongholds defending the Yangtze. When the cities fell Kublai became emperor and founded the Yuan Dynasty.

    First toll roads In England

    The first toll roads in England were established in 1269 this was a big deal because it was the beginning of the Dark Ages. During the Dark Ages there was little money going around and most of the money was in the Church. So when tol roads came out and taxed traders it made trading not profitable anymore so all trade ceased to exsist in Europe.

    Offical start of the Yuan Dynasty

    Kublai was the founder and first emperor of the Yuan Dynasty. He moved the Mongol capital to Bejing and made a summer palace there. Unlike any other Mongol leader he spent most of his life in China and lived in luxury until his death.

    In 1275 Marco Polo a Ventian Traveler went to Xanadu and created relations with Kublai. As Kublai got to know him and found out what he wanted Marco needed some way to pay he payed but teaching him about christanity. After learning The stories of Jesus Marco was made a royal advisor to Kublai. Marco Polo left In 1293 a year before Kublai's death bringing all of his money back with him.

    Roger Bacon was imprsioned for hersey against the Curch. Heresy is an opinon that goes against a relgious doctrine. He was imprisoned for one of his ideas untill he died.

    Campaign Against Japan

    In 1281 Kublai Khan made it a personal goal to take control over Japan because it had never been done. But as the Mogolian ships were on their way to attack Japan a storm stuck and smashed the boats into the side of the rocky island. Destroying the boats and killing most of the warriors. But the few that did survive where found and killed by the Japthey allowed one man to Japanese Emperor. But they allowed one man to survive and spread the word of the loss to demoralize Kublai Khan.

    End of Sung Acdemy

    In 1282 the Sung Acdemy was destroyed by an invading attack on China. The Sung Acdemey was the last remence of the Sung Dynasty before it was replaced by the Yuan.

    In 1290 the spectacles were invented by Roger Bacon but they were not used for Seeing. The were used for seeing many years later before a practical use was found many years later. But Bacon was not the first to discover the spectacles but he is still credited with the invention.

    Kublai's Death

    In 1294 on Feburary 18th Kublai passed away. His body was carried by caravan to the Kentey Mountains where Genghis Khan was buried. He was 79 when he died it was demanded that his wives be buried alive with the Great Khan. But today not much is know about where he is buried. Also the leaders after Kublai of the Yuan Dynasty were incompetent and started the decline of the dynasty.
