  • French/Indian War

    French/Indian War
    Britain and France were fighting over land in America, more specifically control of a valley. The fighting lasted until 1763 when the British won, and the Treaty of Paris was signed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A group called the Sons of Liberty went into the Boston Harbor and threw tons of tea overboard three ships. This caused the Coercive Acts to eventually be put into place, and not long after this, the Revolutionary War began.

    The American people were getting tired of the British being able to still have so much influence over them. Eventually, a war broke out. The war lasted for 8 years, and eventually, the British surrendered at Yorktown.
  • Writing of the Constitution

    There was a Constitutional Convention that took place earlier the same year, but on 9/17/1787, the Constitution was written. The constitution outlines the rights and responsibilities of the people, and also contains the duties and delegations of the government. It's still in use today.

    Before factories, items and goods were produced in homes. The creation of factories helped to further the Industrial Revolution and speed up the process. "Samuel Slater, a cotton spinner's apprentice who left England the year before with the secrets of textile machinery, built a factory from memory to produce spindles of yarn."

    Lewis and Clark were important figures in US History. They journeyed west after the Louisiana Purchase to investigate the land. They documented so many new discoveries and paved the way for many more people to travel west.

    The Missouri Compromise took place because tensions were rising between the North and the South about slavery. The compromise outlined rules and regulations about who was and wasn't a slave state.

    Manifest Destiny was an attitude that many Americans held. It was that westward expansion was destined to happen. This attitude made America grow exponentially as railroads and commerce moved west.

    The Industrial Revolution began in Britain and Europe, and then eventually spread to America. It brought with it improved manufacturing techniques, factories, and inventions.

    "Bleeding Kansas" was a bunch of violent fights that took place in Kansas in 1855 between anti-slavery and pro-slavery Americans. This series of events was what led up to the Civil War.

    The Civil war was a four-year war that was between the Union, (North), and the Confederacy, (South). There were a few things that were being fought for, but slavery was at the forefront. Eventually, the Union was able to win in 1865.

    Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
    Abraham Lincoln was going to the theatre with his wife one evening. A man named John Wilkes Booth thought that he would be a celebrated hero if he killed Lincoln, so he snuck up behind him and shot him, killing him.

    Reconstruction was an era of transformation for America. It was the way everyone had to figure out how things were going to be since the Civil War had ended, and the Union had won. There were many different ideas proposed by different people, and some worked, others were detrimental.
