  • KHL was Founded

    It was created out of the Russian Super League.

  • First All Star Game

    The format opposed Team Yashin, made up of the best Russian players of the league, to Team Jágr, made up of the best foreign players.

  • End of the First Season

    The Ak Bars Kazan won the first ever Gagarin Cup Finals in a 1-0 victory of game 7.

  • Introduction of Conferences

    The KHL Board of Directors implemented a Conference and Division realignment to help with travel problems.

  • Second Season Under Way

    It began with the Opening Cup. Featuring the previous seasons Gagarin Cup Finalists. It was won by the Ak Bars Kazan again, against HC MVD.

  • Third Season.

    The start of the third season. Salavat Yulaev Ufa was the Gagarin Cup winner.

  • Tragedy Struck The League

    The team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl were involved in a horrific airplane crash. There where only two survivors.

  • Fourth season

    This season was won by Dynamo Moscow.

  • NHL Lockout

    A large number of players from the NHL still wanted to play hockey so they signed weekly contracts with the KHL in order to play in their league.
