  • Henry Parks Thinks of Federation

    Henry Parkes supported the idea of Federation. He talked to other governments to unite and create a parliament for all of Australia. He stated that he was ready to cooperate with other Colonies that wanted Federation. Other Premiers agreed and decided to hold an information Conference on Federation in 1890.
  • Australian Federation Conference in Melbourne

    The Australian Federation Conference in Melbourne was held. Henry Parks replied to services to unite Australasians focusing on a common British tradition. The 13-people representing each colonial government acknowledged Australia’s population, wealth and self-governing capacity. Then the people at the meeting agreed to a convention to consider a constitution to federation.
  • First draft on Rules Made

    The first draft set of rules were made for the federation of Australia on the 9th of April. Parkes spoke about coming together of one country and one destiny. Then sir Samuel Griffin worked with other member of the convention to go over more rules.
  • The Corowa Conference

    The Corowa Conference was held. The reason this was held was to support John Quick’s Motion to require each government to pass the law for the election representatives to a constitutional convention. The resulting rules would then be agreed upon by a vote in each colony. Parkes and Alfred Deakin didn’t attend this convention but both made a separate visit to Corowa.
  • Federation metting in Melbourne

    Victoria’s federal government arranged a Federation Meeting at Melbourne town hall. Premiers from VIC, NSW and SA attended. A Parliament of SA was formed in the same year.
  • The Peoples Convention

    The people Convention was held in Bathurst. NSW Premier Reid and the US Colonel Bell gave speeches at this Convention. The Women’s organising committee had been the first women to establish to agitate Federation with limited social functions. The 200 delegates debated informed us on the senate and the draft of rules called this peoples Convention.
  • National Australasians Convention

    The National Australasian Convention in Sydney. They discussed 286 proposed amendments to the rules bill. The people agreed on the basics of representation in the Senate, the powers of the Senate in regard to money invoice and provisions to break between the houses.
  • Secret Premiers Conference

    A secret Premiers Conference was held in Melbourne. All premiers agreed to amend the rules bill to the concerns of NSW and QLD. They also decided a federal capital in NSW that was 100miles away from Sydney. With the rules that were made in 1891 were not read by Queensland and Western Australia which means they agreed and disagreed with the rules.

    The Premiers Conference was held in Melbourne. The Premiers supported the Australian people in London, confirming their order to seek the enactment of the rules bill.
  • Contitution Acts

    The Commonwealth of Australian rules act was passed by the British Government. This had to happen before all 6 colonies united as a nation. The British changed some of the rules on it and added some. The original copy of the act was returned in Australia 1988. After this, Queen Victoria approved the bill by signing the Royal Commission of Assent.

    Proclamation of Commonwealth of Australia in Sydney. People voted Edward Barton as prime minister. The letters Patent and Commission of the governor-general were read out loud and the nine members of the interim federal ministry were sworn in.
