Dred Scott was a slave who was taken into the northern states with his owner. He sued his owner saying that he is free because the northen states were a free state. The trial stated that Dred was still a slave, which enraged a lot of anti-slavery people. -

South Carolina decided to seceed from The Union. They were unhappy with Lincoln being elected president, and wanted nothing to do with him and his anti slavery message and campaign. So they decided to leave. They started a revolution of souther states seceeding. Which led to the Civil War.
