On June 28, 1914 and Sarajevo, Bosnia's people crowed the cities streets. Archduke Franz Ferdinand, next in line to the throne of the Strauss-Hungarian Empire, and was in town for a visit. He and his wife were driver along in a open car when a gunman attacked both were killed. The assassination did more than just killing the royal couple , it upset thin balance among Europe's powers and within weeks, these powers were at war. -

As a reaction to international outrage at the sinking of the Lutanist Kaiser Wilhelm suspended unrestricted submarine warfare.This was an attempt to keep the United States out of war but it majorly messed with German efforts to stop American supplies from reaching France and Britain. -

The Germans sign a peace treaty will Russians government. The treaty's terms gave Russia mass amounts of land that had originally been in Ukraine and Poland. Peace on the East front allows Germany to move soldiers to the western front , which caused massive problems for French, British, and Americans. -
