    Ten Commandments Trailer1250 BC- As centuries passed Jews became enslaved in Egypt, but God sent Moses to lead them out of Egypt. God led them on a journey to Mount Sinai. Here God revealed the Torah, written and oral, to his people. The ten part summary is known as the Ten Commandments. According to Jewish tradition it is believed that every person born into Judaism has this covenant with God to follow these commandments.

    Benedict XII bans Talmud
    Benedict XIII bans the study of the Talmud in any form, institutes forced Christian sermons, and tries to restrict Jewish life completely. Jews had already faced so much adversity and they are denied all aspects of their life and culture. Jews were just recently blamed for the black plague and continue to be kicked out of homes and discriminated against.

    1562 B.C.E.-Abraham’s grandson Joseph was envied by his brothers for being the favorite of their father. They sold him into slavery, where he was lead to Egypt. His brothers convinced their father, Jacob, that Joseph was dead. After being a slave in Egypt, it was found that Joseph could interpret dreams, which made him part of the Pharaoh's court. When a great famine struck his father’s land he came to Egypt for food and found Joseph. This event explains Jewish settlement in Egypt.

They created the foundation of Judaism and monotheistic religions in general.Abram had a special relationship with God and God promised him a great land if he would leave his home and family for God. When Abram agreed the b’rit (covenant) was formed between God and Jewish people. The b’rit is a fundamental part of Judaism. It states that we have rights and obligations to God as humans, as he does to us.

    Jewish GhettoThe first ghetto is established in Poland for the Jews. The Nazi German Holocaust begins around this time. As a total 6,000,000 jews were killed. They were sent to concentration camps and killed in gas chambers and various other awful methods.

    Israel becomes a free country. Zionism rapidly grows, which is a form of nationalism for Jews. Pride in their culture, beliefs, and new country of Israel. The land that had been sacred to Jews since biblical times was now their own. It was a new dawning era for the Jewish people. Israel is home to the sacred Jerusalem.

    70 C.E.-The first Jewish-Roman war occurred. The Roman army, led by the future Emperor Titus, besieged and conquered the city of Jerusalem.which had been occupied by Jews in 66. This land had a lot of importance to them and their religion. The siege ended with the city being destroyed and the destruction of Jerusalem’s famous Second Temple. The destruction of the first and second temple is still mourned annually as the Jewish people fast Tisha B’av.

Avi Weiss, an Orthodox rabbi in the Bronx, proposes a woman be a rabbi. The idea is immediately shut down. Women still do not have the right to be rabbis.

    Mohammad Abu Shahala, a former Palestinian intelligence agent is sentenced to death for selling property to Jews. In a letter written by the Prime Minister of Israel, he explains that Mr. Abu Shahala was tortured and had to admit to selling the property. The prime minister is repealing his death sentence, but it looks unhopeful. The case is still going on but this further proves that the Palestinian/ Israli conflict continues because Israel is now where Palestine was.

    The Talmud is complied. The Talmud is the Jewish book of scripture. It contains the stories of Jewish ancestry and traditions. This book is studied by traditional Jews.
